MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of James M. Brown Elementary School is to develop lifelong learners who are respectful, responsible, and honest citizens by providing meaningful educational experiences for all students.


SPOTLIGHT
Kindergarten registration
Students must be 5 years of age on or before September 1, 2018 to be eligible for Kindergarten (5K).  Please use the form below to pre-register your child for Kindergarten for the 2018-2019 school year.  If your child is presently attending a 4K program in the School District of Oconee County, you do not need to pre-register the student for Kindergarten, since he/she will be included in the Returning Student Registration group that will open July 2018.

We will have Kindergarten Registration at JMB on March 5th - March 9th.  Please bring your student with you and you can pre-register while your student meets a Kindergarten teacher.  Registration is from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm.

Dwight Head



Dwight Head, one of our fourth grade gems has been named the competitor for the district competition from James M. Brown. Dwight will compete against the additional finalists from the other elementary schools. Congratulations Dwight!




School Choice


School Choice for the 2018-19 school year is now open and will remain open until June 30th.  If you would like for your child to attend a school that is outside of the attendance area in which you live, you must complete a school choice form.  If possible, please use the online form that can be found on the link below.  If you are unable to complete the online form, a paper copy may be obtained in the school office.  School choice forms are required annually even if your child is currently on school choice.  

The following are highlights of the SDOC school choice policy:

  • Only students that reside in Oconee County are eligible for choice.
  • Transportation to a "choice school" is the responsibility of the parents/guardians (no bus service will be provided)
  • Students on school choice must submit an application each year.
  • School Choice is based on behavior, attendance, and grades before approving applications.
  • The completed school choice application is due by or on June 30th.
The school district reserves the right to limit school choice enrollment by grade level or program as staffing or funding requires.  Choice may also be limited by classroom space in the school(s).



Rotary Student of the Quarter
Claire Shields



Congratulations to Claire Shields!  She was chosen as JMB's Rotary Student of the Quarter.  Each quarter fifth grade teachers select one student to be the Rotary Scholar of the Quarter.  It is based on the motto of Rotary "service above self" and other Rotary character traits.  Congratulations Claire!  We are very proud of you!




Battle of the Books School Winners
BOB Winners

Our JMB BOB school competition was awesome!  We had five teams participating.  The students have worked extremely hard for the past several months.  Our winning team was not easily obtained.  At the end of the final round there was a tie.  We had 6 tie breaker rounds to determine this year's winner.  Our winning team will not compete in the district competition at Blue Ridge Elementary on January 27, 2018.  Everyone is invited to come out and support our JMB Gems!  Congratulations to our winning team:  Left to Right--Allie Savage, Judith Espino, Emily Quisenberry, Ariana Rivera, Claire Shields, and Tonya Stancil (Media Specialist).
